Hello 2020! Thoughts from Sam for the New Year.

We did it. We made it to 2020. Not without a few scars, I’m sure, but nonetheless we’re here. And I for one LOVE the New Year.

My husband is notoriously “too cool” for New Years resolutions, so I try to play it cool too. I’m still trying to keep it under wraps that he’s out of my league, so I have adopted the party line that we’re more of a “set intentions” family.

Alas, my loosely veiled resolution-intentions are as follows:

  • Say “no” quickly and with resolve when my gut knows it’s not the right fit for me (applies to clients, jeans, home appliances, and dry shampoo that’s white.)

  • Work with the best. It’s only taken me 7 years to figure out that working with a team of people (sub contractors, clients, assistants, etc.) that make your heart light up when you see their name on your phone is smart. Who knew, right?

  • Simplify with necessity. I realized that my heart longs for simplicity (everywhere- home, work, whatever’s in between) but my head thinks in terms of necessity. I’ve decided to marry the two, mashing them both in either arm like I’m a Disney princess tightly hugging two reluctant woodland side kicks. (Bonus resolution: watch less Disney movies… curse you, Disney +.)

Another intention for 2020, in teeshirt form. Also a favorite gift from a client (and friend), Janie Hett at Peak Motion Physical Therapy.

And alas, I could list on, but I know about myself that I need to keep it short. Honorable mention to exercise more, but as we’re still getting used to adopting our Whole Food, Plant Based diets (which we love), I decided to take it one thing at a time. Keeping my list short also seems like a nod to my third bullet of necessity, so wish me luck!

So, what about you? Are you a “resolution maker”, an “intention setter”, a “guiding word or phrase” finder? What’s your New Years thing?
